Abstract

This article analyzes the contributions of classical sociological theory to victimology. To this end, a bibliographic review was conducted, presenting the main sociological currents, with the aim of explaining the major theoretical frameworks of victimology. From a theoretical analysis, it questions how the phenomenon of victimization is objectively addressed and its underlying causes are explored. Furthermore, it emphasizes how these topics can be applied to the Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Forensic Sciences at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Ecuador, due to its relevance in contemporary sociology. The program examines the social, economic, and cultural changes that impact victimization. It has also contributed to demystifying stereotypes about "ideal victims" and analyzing how certain attributes and social patterns can influence the selection of individuals as victims. The article also explores the links between social victimization, feelings of insecurity, and comprehensive initiatives to address victims' demands. It also highlights the importance of understanding that victimization can arise from a lack of social cohesion and anomie, manifesting itself in forms of exploitation and structural violence. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of victimology as a field of study and its cross-cutting role in understanding the criminal phenomenon.
