Education as a prevention tool: guaranteeing dignified access to reduce youth recidivism.
Keywords:
Educational prevention, youth recidivism, school inclusion, juvenile justice, social cohesionAbstract
Lack of dignified educational opportunities perpetuates cycles of exclusion that push many young people toward criminal behavior and, later, recidivism. An inclusive school system—offering flexible programs that develop socio‑emotional and technical skills—can serve as a primary barrier against juvenile crime. When education acknowledges cultural diversity and students’ economic realities, it fosters belonging and future aspirations, decisive factors for distancing youth from violence and precarious work. Inter‑agency coordination between juvenile justice, social services, and schools ensures academic continuity during custodial and non‑custodial measures, preventing dropout. Investing in school infrastructure, teacher training, and targeted scholarships for at‑risk adolescents enhance the quality and relevance of learning processes. Funding dignified education not only lowers recidivism but also strengthens social cohesion and public safety.
