The teaching role of the community nurse in improving the quality of life of at-risk groups

The objective of this study was to analyze the teaching role of the community nursing professional in improving the quality of life of groups at risk, especially in the city of Machala, Ecuador. A qualitative methodology of systematized bibliographic review was used, based on 35 academic sources published between 2020 and 2025, selected from databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and Redalyc. The findings show that the educational component exercised by community nursing generates positive impacts on health literacy, disease prevention, adherence to treatments, community empowerment and social inclusion, especially in vulnerable populations such as older adults, women, children, indigenous communities and people with chronic diseases. The discussion highlights that the teaching function allows the transformation of health care from a care model to a participatory and culturally relevant approach, although its implementation faces structural limitations such as the lack of pedagogical training, resources and institutional recognition. It is concluded that community nursing, when it exercises its educational role systematically, becomes a strategic tool to reduce inequalities and strengthen inclusive health systems. It is recommended to strengthen the didactic training of nursing staff, institutionalize the educational component in public policies and promote intersectoral alliances to guarantee sustainable interventions with territorial impact.
