The evolution and legal understanding of femicide in Ecuador reflect a complex process of adaptation within the criminal justice system to meet social demands for justice and gender equality. Since its inclusion in the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), the legal treatment of this crime has shown significant normative progress but also practical limitations in its implementation. Challenges persist regarding judicial interpretation, evidence assessment, and the lack of specialized gender-sensitive training. Furthermore, sociocultural stereotypes and limited institutional awareness of patriarchal violence hinder the effectiveness of public policies. In this context, educational and legal challenges intersect, requiring an integrated approach that combines legislative reforms, continuous training, and institutional commitment. Only through such a comprehensive perspective can the legal understanding of femicide effectively promote justice, reparation, and equal rights.
