University dropout rates represent a multifactorial challenge that affects students' academic and professional development, as well as the social and economic progress of societies. This phenomenon is influenced by academic, economic, psychosocial, vocational, and institutional variables, which interact in diverse and complex environments. Therefore, this study focused on analyzing the determining factors of dropout among undergraduate university students, based on a review of academic articles related to university abandonment. The results showed that low academic performance, lack of support, adverse economic conditions, insufficient vocational guidance, and the quality of institutional management all contribute to dropout rates. Furthermore, psychosocial aspects such as self-efficacy, emotional adjustment, and social support have played a fundamental role in student retention. It is concluded that university dropout rates should be analyzed through a set of policies that allow for the design of actions and measures for prevention and retention. This is especially true in the implementation of academic support programs, vocational guidance, and improvements in institutional management to strengthen educational continuity. Therefore, it has been suggested that future research analyze the interaction of these multifactorial elements and evaluate the impact of interventions in different educational settings.
