One of the most common challenges in basic education is students’ difficulty in expressing themselves effectively through oral communication. Although communication is an inherent human capacity, speaking in public or delivering a presentation represents a significant challenge for many students. In basic education, the development of oral expression often receives limited attention and, in many cases, is addressed through isolated activities without a clearly defined pedagogical purpose. This article aims to reflect on the importance of public speaking as a pedagogical tool for strengthening students’ oral communication skills. It also proposes strategies that can be implemented in the classroom to foster the development of these communicative abilities. According to various studies, public speaking contributes to students’ cognitive, social, and emotional development while promoting effective communication and critical thinking.
