in the La Ferroviaria neighborhood. This center was established as a result of an inter-institutional agreement signed with the then Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) and the Metropolitan University of Ecuador (UMET). The main objective is to highlight the work carried out in its first phase through the planning and implementation of vocational, entrepreneurship, and first aid courses, which are aimed at people in vulnerable situations. In this context, the article seeks to demonstrate how these actions strengthen the relationship between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and the community, contributing to the fulfillment of the social responsibility that HEIs must uphold within their core processes. During this first stage, 40-hour academic workshops were offered in beauty and hairdressing, sewing, and baking, in addition to two sessions of the community first aid workshop. The evaluation of this experience was carried out through a systematization process that collected and analyzed related numerical data on registered participants, certificates issued, existing and emerging businesses, as well as testimonials and field observations. Consequently, the tables presented summarize the training offered and the main results achieved by the participants. Furthermore, changes are shown not only in the economic dimension but also in social and personal dimensions related to the strengthening of self-esteem, confidence in their own abilities, and self-perception, all of which contribute to successful processes of economic and social inclusion.
