Chemistry teaching in technical high school education often faces challenges related to students’ conceptual understanding of specific topics, particularly those associated with the structure and patterns of the periodic table. In many classroom contexts, the study of chemical elements is frequently reduced to memorization practices that offer limited meaning for learners. In response to this situation, this study examines the incorporation of game-based learning strategies within the 5E Instructional Model through the implementation of the didactic game Batalla Elemental in upper secondary education. The draft was developed in a classroom environment with students interacting with a card game designed to represent periodic properties. Throughout the sessions, notable changes were observed in the participation of the students, in the way they learn and understand different definitions such as atomic radius or electronegativity. The findings suggest that integrating playful learning dynamics in teaching allows conceptual exploration to connect with students ‘experiential learning processes. From this point of view, the didactic game becomes a meaningful resource that links cognitive engagement with the social and emotional dimensions of classroom learning, offering a valuable approach to rethinking chemistry instruction in traditional education.
