Through a case study, the relationship between gender status and care in Zapotlán de Juárez, Hidalgo is glimpsed. The main objective is to identify how childcare is structured and who the main caregivers are at the CONAFE school in this community. The UN defines care as activities that regenerate people on a daily basis, including domestic and educational tasks, highlighting the inequalities that mainly affect women in poverty. PAHO expands this definition to include physical and mental health throughout life and care for the environment. Historically, the upper classes delegated these tasks to domestic workers, reflecting a pattern of wage exploitation. The methodology included structured interviews with 10 caregivers in Zapotlán de Juárez, using unrestricted random sampling. Although not statistically representative, this approach allowed a direct approach to social dynamics. The survey was structured into five categories: family dynamics and care, places of care, gender perspective, other caregivers, and ethics of care. The study revealed that women are primarily responsible for care, both at home and outside of it. The families interviewed were mostly two-parent nuclear (60%) and extended (40%), with no records of single-parent families. The distribution of roles indicated a greater burden for women in care tasks, supported by female support networks.
