This study analyzes the difficulties in mathematics learning among 10th-grade students in Basic General Education, revealing limitations in conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and the transfer of knowledge to real-world contexts. These difficulties directly affect the development of logical-mathematical thinking and academic performance, primarily due to the weak connection between theory and practice in the teaching-learning process. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, employing techniques such as non-participant observation, interviews, focus groups, document review, and a pedagogical test. This allowed for triangulation of information and a comprehensive understanding of the educational phenomenon. The results show that traditional methodologies persist, limiting active student participation, while active and collaborative teaching strategies foster greater understanding and motivation toward mathematical learning. The theoretical analysis is based on the contributions of Piaget, Vygotsky, Pólya, the Singapore method, and Van Hiele's model, all of which agree on the need to promote progressive, meaningful, socially mediated, and structured learning for the development of mathematical reasoning. It is concluded that the identified difficulties stem from insufficient pedagogical support. Therefore, the implementation of a tutorial action plan is proposed as a key strategy to strengthen academic support, improve conceptual understanding, and promote the development of problem-solving skills in students.
