Artistic expressions as a strategy for the educational inclusion of migrant students

Abstract

Emigration in Mexico has altered classroom heterogeneity and educational strategies for addressing cultural diversity. To assess the impact, three dimensions, educational, social, and emotional, were identified, visualizing the effect of the diaspora in both its positive and negative aspects. Two hundred and fifty children, adolescents, and young adults of different nationalities and educational levels were surveyed to understand the limitations faced by emigrants and the barriers within the educational system to address this process. Linking students to artistic expression is one of the strategies designed by the University Center for Artistic Training to mitigate the effects of migration, resulting in improved academic performance and increased retention rates within the educational system. Actions are proposed to counteract educational exclusion and enable teachers to provide a quality education that meets societal demands.
