High academic achievement in Cuban higher education constitutes a strategic priority for the country’s scientific and economic development. The current regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education establish a regulatory framework that redefines the organization of the educational process and the support provided to talented students. This article analyzes the perspectives for supporting students with high academic achievement within the current economic context, characterized by constraints and ongoing transformations. It examines the conceptualization of academic talent within the Cuban regulatory framework, identification mechanisms, training strategies, and the challenges faced by this process under current conditions. The research is based on the analysis of key policy and regulatory documents, as well as a review of specialized literature indexed in national and international academic databases. It is argued that supporting high academic achievement requires a systemic approach that integrates early identification, continuous stimulation, comprehensive development, and monitoring and evaluation, in alignment with the country’s socioeconomic development needs. Current perspectives are oriented toward creating educational environments that foster autonomy, creativity, and research capacity among talented students as a means of developing the scientific professionals the country needs to advance its sustainable development.
