The central objective of this research was to analyze how reading influences students' academic performance. To achieve this, the evaluation instrument of the Early Warning System (SisAT) was applied and analyzed in two second-grade primary school groups in the municipality of Metztitlán, Hidalgo, Mexico. The study aimed to compare the results while considering the main difficulties identified among the students, particularly reading comprehension and reading fluency. It also examined the importance of reading for children's overall and academic development according to their age and explored how teacher intervention can help reduce these difficulties through the implementation of effective reading strategies.
